Pamela Ruiz Projects is founded on Pamela’s passion for collaboration and connection, drawing from her extensive experience working with Cuban artists, international collectors, and curators. As an art and cultural advisor, Pamela creates energy, opportunities and networks for Cuban and international artists, both on the island and within the global art community.
A native of New York, Pamela began her career in the early 1980s as a premier photography agent, representing German fine-art and fashion star Juergen Teller. She later launched her production and location scouting firm, producing shoots with legendary photographers such as Annie Leibowitz, William Eggleston, Juergen Teller and Philip-Lorca diCorcia for the pages of Vanity Fair, W Magazine and Double.
In 1996, Pamela moved to Havana, Cuba, and her evolution continued as she transitioned from decades of production and artist management to contemporary art.
Her curatorial work began during the 7th Havana Biennial in 2000, when she organized the alternative exhibition Esta es tu casa, Vicenta / This is Your House, Vicenta, a site-specific presentation in the 19th century villa where she currently lives with her partner Cuban artist Damian Aquiles and their son Bastian Silvestre.
Pamela has curated and produced numerous exhibitions that showcase internationally acclaimed artists such as Robert Mapplethorpe, Ross Bleckner, Jack Pierson, Spencer Tunick, and Peter Nadin. One of her most notable achievements was organizing a retrospective for Louise Bourgeois in Havana in 2016. The exhibition forged an unprecedented link between New York and Havana.
Ever the cultural ambassador, Pamela wrote the introduction for a photographic love letter to Havana -- the sumptuous coffee table book Havana Blues, which was published by Assouline in 2020.
Beyond her curatorial and advisory endeavors, Pamela is celebrated for her unforgettable dinner parties, where she brings together a diverse and fascinating mix of Cuban and international figures from all walks of art, design, music and culture. She has welcomed the likes of Beth Rudin de Woody, Will Smith, Katy Perry, John Baptiste, Susan Sarandon, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler and Tory Burch. She has hosted and entertained leadership, board members and trustees from prestigious institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Guggenheim Museums, Palm Springs Art Museum and Art Basel.
